Responsibilities: Provide Section 508 Compliance document accessibility reviews, document remediation and end user and group training for document accessibility, in accordance with Department of Education Section 508 standards and requirements within OCIO to improve the accessibility of the Department documents and forms.
Proficient in Section 508 review and remediation of MS Word, PDFs, PowerPoints, and Excel.
Possess skills to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document accessibility issues.
Use accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies (e.g. JAWS, Dragon, ZoomText) as needed to ensure conformance and accuracy.
Experience proving document accessibility training to users and to large groups.
Keep current with all relevant policies and requirements for accessibility as related to documents, audio and video files.
Design and develop document and file templates that adhere to accessibility guidelines. Track and log document and template changes and provide reports as requested.
Advise staff on policy and best practices for creating accessible materials.
Work with staff to streamline related processes, including web requests, document submissions, remediation, and approvals.
Create document accessibility reference guides and other instructional materials as needed.
Public Trust eligibility.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
3+ years’ experience with Section 508.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skill.
Excellent prioritization skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and Section 508 Accessibility Standards as it related to documents.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business.
Organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Able to work quickly and accurately. Ability to Review and Conduct Webinars, Videos and Online Learning Courses, experience is required.
Specialized Experience: Adobe Acrobar Pro, , Adobe InDesign (web/graphic design) preferred, Word, Power Point and Excel expertise. . Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of experience preferred. Must be a US Citizen and able to secure a 6C public trust clearance. Must be willing to be onsite in Washington DC for meetings.
